The Premier League this season has so far produced a staggering 411 goals. Over the past few years English football has been dominated by which clubs have the most money to spend. Manchester City have obviously spent the most money this season, but which clubs are producing the most goals? In this article I also take a look at which strikers from the top seven clubs have scored the most goals.Take a look at the first table below where I compare goals scored at home and away after 14 games played this season and over previous seasons.

Premier League goals after 14 games played

This table below shows the club who has scored the most goals so far this season. It’s interesting to see that two of the bottom three teams in the league (Blackburn and Bolton) are sitting sixth and eighth in the most goals table below.

Team with the most goals this season

Premiership Top Goalscorers

Lets take a look at the top three strikers from the top seven clubs and how important it is to have all of your club’s strikers in form. Manchester City have kept all their strikers fit this season and this is why they have scored the most goals so far.

Roberto Mancini has had his critics this season but the one thing he has done is that he’s kept his top strikers fit. This will be important come the end of the season having already taking a +7 goal difference over their rivals Manchester United.

Mick McCarthy can now breathe a little better after Wolves ended a run of eight games without a win after picking up three points against bottom of the table Wigan.

On Sunday Wolves took the lead after 31 minutes when Jamie O’Hara connected with a cross from Kevin Doyle. But Ben Watson equalised for Wigan when he was awarded a penalty kick for a block on Emmerson Boyce. Watson netted the rebound after Hennessey’s initial save.

David Edwards and Stephen Ward went on to seal the win against a frustrating Wigan.

This was an end-to-end game with both sides wanting that early goal. Wolves fell lucky after Rodallega missed a sitter and the best chance of the game just before O’Hara scored the first goal. Wigan’s attacking force of Di Santo, Rodallega and Moses were intimidating for Wolves throughout the game, after creating plenty of chances to see off Wolves in the first half. Wigan’s midfield totally controlled the first half although Wolves made that easy for them after numerous passes went straight into their possession. If it wasn’t for Wigan not taking their chances early on, Wolves would of gotten destroyed.

Wolves have disappointingly conceded ten goals in six home fixtures this season which has to be causing one of many problems for Mick McCarthy. It’s been a rocky season for Wolves fans so far but Mick McCarthy has “no complaints with the way his team is performing.”

To stay in the Premiership Wolves need to change their style of play. Wolves depend on wide players to deliver the goods for them and very rarely play down the middle unless on a break. To progress from this, more balls need to go into Doyle’s feet to create opportunities in and around the area. Being too predictable with the way that they play will come back to haunt them towards the end of the season.

Although Wolves fans are the most passionate in the league, I believe that if the team doesn’t change their style of play, they could be in big trouble towards the end of the season.

Wolves fans…where do you think you will finish this season? More importantly, let me know your thoughts on whether the strategy that your team is using at the moment will keep you up.

David Beckham and LA Galaxy booked a place in the last four of the MLS Cup last night at the Home Depot Center. With two teams with great title expectations, It was Galaxy that came out on top. Red Bulls were without Rafa Marquez because of last Sunday’s heroics after he decided to throw the match-ball at Landon Donovan at the end of the game in the first leg last Sunday. In the result of the big bust up between both sides, that meant Galaxy were without midfielder Juninho.

It was New York Red Bulls who took an early lead after four minutes when Luke Rodgers slotted the ball past Josh Saunders in the LA goal after receiving an inch perfect through ball from Thierry Henry. Red Bulls found lots of space on the field and dominated most of the first half but couldn’t turn possession into goals. LA came close a few times when Robbie Keane hit the post and had two half chances to level. Red Bulls goalkeeper Frank Rost kept out Keane after he latched on to a rebound from a long shot and was left with the whole goal to place the ball into but at full stretch Rost somehow managed to keep out Keane. It wasn’t long until Galaxy leveled after David Beckham whipped in a corner and found the head of Mike Magee to make it 1-1 at the break.

Donovan came close early in the second half with a shot from the edge of the area but found his shot deflected wide off Rost’s left post. Not long after that, Donovan showed good defensive play after sprinting fifty yards down the field to cut out a cross from Joel Lindpere and stopping Dane Richards from getting to the ball first. Rodgers showed his speed and strength to create a one-on-one with Saunders but his shot found the side netting. Red Bulls started to run out of ideas as Beckham started to get on the ball more during the latter stages of the second half by being involved in every tackle on the field. Hans Backe was getting frustrated on the sidelines after his team were giving LA free kicks from all angles, which one nearly paid off for Keane after another Beckham free kick brushed past his head.

Beckham and LA kept the pressure on Red Bulls and it paid off in the 75th minute after full back Roy Miller decided to try and get the ball from Beckham by pushing and kicking him inside the area. This resulted in a penalty kick for LA and Donovan made no mistake in slotting it past Frank Rost to win the game 2-1 and 3-1 over the two legs.

Beckham was a star in this game. He showed fight and determination in every tackle and put his neck on the line for his team-mates throughout the game. It looked like he started to have back trouble during the game but pulled through and brought back memories of how he used to play for Manchester United. He has been a fantastic player this season for Galaxy and still shows that he could still play in the Premier League at 36. Who know where he will be after his contract ends at the end of this years playoffs.

Galaxy now play Real Salt Lake at home in the semi finals of the playoffs on Sunday.

Times are tough in the office of Andre Villas-Boas. The troubles started on October 23 at 4:41pm at Loftus Road where the Blues were shown their second red card of the game against QPR and then finished the game by losing 1-0. Three days later they scraped through to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup with ten men thanks to an extra-time winner from sub Daniel Sturridge, but they never would have gotten there had it not been for the goalkeeping heroics of Petr Cech.

Another three days later Arsenal were the visitors at Stamford Bridge where the Gunners hadn’t won there in nearly three years. Well that changed… Chelsea had two lifelines as they took the lead twice and still leaked in five goals after a dodgy defence watched Theo Walcott and Robin van Persie steel the thunder at the Bridge.

The Blues looked down the tunnel at a Champions League group match away at Genk three days later. Chelsea hung onto a 1-0 lead in Belgium but found it frustrating to break Genk down, and ended up drawing this fixture 1-1.

Chelsea have had their troubles off the field with John Terry and his alleged racist row with Anton Ferdinand, which Chelsea supporters voiced their displeasure in Belgium. Are Chelsea about to put all of these problems behind them as they get ready for an away game with Blackburn and then a tough fixture at home with Liverpool? It feels strange to say it, but this game against Rovers will be one of the most important games of the season for Chelsea. Blackburn have only won one game in the league on home soil all season but Rovers are due a win on the back of a Carling Cup result against Newcastle and a thrilling 3-3 draw with Norwich last Saturday.

But what’s next for Chelsea?

With City nine points clear and rivals Spurs knocking on the door with a game in hand, Villas-Boas must be sweating a little. Who will be starting? Who will be the player to step up and take the next penalty kick? Of course it has to be Frank, but these are the little things that will be testing AVB ahead of these next two games.

With ten games played and only two away wins out of five for Chelsea, this one will be the test for two managers who are without doubt under extreme pressure.

The story has been told a million times before. The greatest team in football, on their flight home from an exhibition game in Lisbon, meet with a premature end when their G-212 plane smashes into the Basilica di Superga. All 31 passengers died, including the entire Torino squad. Sixty years on, the pain felt on 4 May 1949 is still very much in evidence in the city of Turin.

Monday saw the anniversary of the darkest day in Italian football history, with around 1500 people making the arduous trek up to the site of the crash. As the public arrived ahead of a commemorative Mass inside the church, the heavens opened and a thunderstorm raged, recreating the treacherous conditions which had plagued the flight in question and caused the deathly impact at the rear of the building. There now stands a memorial to the victims at that exact spot, and mourners braved the weather to leave floral tributes and pay their respects to I Caduti (the fallen) before making their way to the front of the church. Here a giant TV screen had been erected to allow the public to watch the service.

As members of the Torino club staff arrived, including the entire playing squad, the skies cleared, allowing many fans to emerge from makeshift shelter under trees to greet their modern heroes. The Torino players have been under intense pressure of late as they battle to stay in Serie A, their quest helped by consecutive home wins which have given them a one-point advantage over Bologna, their visitors to the Olimpico next Sunday. But as they made their way into the church under the re-emerging sunlight, they were subject to no pressure, only handshakes and slaps on the back from fans eager to show their thanks for their attendance.

As the crowd watched the service it was difficult not to cast an eye around those gathered and wonder how many were old enough to remember the day itself. Do they remember being told of the demise of their team by a friend or loved one? Maybe even by the special news bulletins which had been broadcast on the radio moments after the crash? Perhaps they used to go down to the Stadio Filadelfia to watch the likes of Ezio Loik, Franco Ossola, Romeo Menti and the inspirational Valentino Mazzola rip opposing teams apart on their march to five successive Italian league titles.

Those who did see Il Grande Torino play were the lucky ones. A team of such style, grace, elegance and raw talent that they were revered around a world which at that time was exposed to very little football outside its own community, let alone its country. A team which would surely have gone on to challenge the great Real Madrid as the game’s superpower in the early days of European club competition in the 1950s. Instead Torino have struggled ever since their great loss, adding only the 1976 league title and three Coppa Italia triumphs. This month they face one of their toughest tests in attempting to stay in Italy’s top flight. But if the club shows the same unity on the pitch as they did at Superga yesterday, La Salvezza should be a formality.
